Adding Clients & Entities

Guide to creating and managing organizational structure in Otto

Overview

Otto uses a hierarchical structure to organize your data: Client → Entity → Account. Before you can add accounts and wallets, you must first set up the appropriate Clients and Entities.

  • Client: The top-level organizational structure (e.g., “ABC Capital Management LLC”)
  • Entity: A sub-organization or fund under the client (e.g., “ABC Bitcoin Fund”, “ABC Ethereum Fund”)
  • Account: Individual wallets or exchange accounts linked to an entity

Adding a New Client

A Client represents the highest level of organizational structure in Otto. This is typically your firm or the client you're servicing.

Steps to Add a Client:
  1. Navigate to Home:
    • From the main navigation, click on “Home”
  2. Create New Client:
    • Click the “Create Client” button
  3. Enter Client Name:
    • Client Name: Enter the full name of the client - this is the only required field
  4. Submit: Click Submit to add the new client

Adding a New Entity

Entities are sub-organizations under a Client. They typically represent individual funds, portfolios, or business units. Each Entity will contain its own set of accounts (wallets and exchanges).

Steps to Add an Entity:
  1. Navigate to a Client:
    • All clients are visible on the Home page
    • Select a client to navigate to its Client page
  2. Create New Entity:
    • Click the “Create Entity” button
  3. Enter Required Information:
    • Entity Name: Enter a descriptive name (e.g., “Bitcoin Fund”, “Trading Portfolio”) - Required
    • Accounting System: Select the accounting system this entity will use - Required
      • Note: If you are not interacting with an external accounting system, choose “Default”
  4. Enter Optional Information:
    • Entity Type: Select the appropriate entity type if applicable
    • Location Details: Zip Code, City, State, and Country (all optional)
  5. Submit: Click Submit to add the new entity

Next Steps

Once you have created your Clients and Entities, you can proceed to add accounts and wallets to the appropriate entities.

See the Adding Accounts & Wallets guide for instructions on adding blockchain wallets and exchange accounts.
